Press Release Body = Phoenix, AZ. May 20, 2006, Author Brian J. Bieler asks the question: "What does it take to create success?" In his new book POWERFUL STEPS, Bieler demonstrates that what stands between most people and career accomplishment is the surprising fact that they overlook or take for granted a few relatively common skills. "People rarely move ahead and get promoted because of job skills alone." Far more important, says Bieler, are fundamental people skills that almost anyone can develop. "You create success by becoming a good communicator, developing good relationships, thinking strategically and being focused."
Using real life experiences, Bieler leads the reader to the inescapable conclusion: The number one strategy in developing careers is improving people skills. The successful are able to influence others and sell ideas. A high IQ and education may get you the job but are not a guarantee of success. It's all about how you think and act. Creativity and innovation drive careers and business. You must take risks because that's where the rewards are. "Ultimately," says Bieler, "the most powerful secret is how to think like an entrepreneur and create opportunities." Powerful Steps is written in a clear easy-to-read style with real-life stories and lessons on the critical skills. Readers will discover: How to think, not what to think How to become a better communicator Why focus and commitment are critical Why most people and managers are confused on how to motivate others Secret strategies: how to negotiate like a pro Why relationships are even more important in a competitive workplace What great leaders do differently and what they focus on How to think and plan strategically using skills of winners and warriors What happens when you don't hold back and take action

About The Author Brian learned first hand what happens when things don't go well and people give up. Born in Linden, New Jersey, he grew up in an entrepreneurial family. His father created a profitable in-home milk delivery service and later started used car lots in East Orange and Newark, New Jersey. He parlayed his success into a sprawling new and used car center in White Plains, New York. Attempting to retire early, Brian's father moved the family to Miami for warmer weather and wound up losing everything. Determined to learn from his fathers mistakes, Brian left Miami for more opportunities. He worked his way up to account executive selling advertising for Women's Wear Daily and Mademoiselle Magazine in New York City. Brian discovered sales and marketing were skills he could master and his career took off. He married his wife Ann and brought his young family back to Miami where he was able to get in the radio business on the ground floor.
He joined a small but highly successful broadcasting group, Sudbrink Broadcasting. "The company was on the edge and taught me out of the box thinking," said Brian. He learned how to run a business creatively and turned around underperforming companies. Brian became General Manager of radio stations in Baltimore, Orlando, Honolulu, Washington DC, Phoenix, Dallas, Sacramento, and President of Viacom Radio in New York City.
"It's a unique experience working in different markets. Peoples' wants and needs are the same everywhere but different environments change people's behavior and outlook.
You can't be fast and nimble with super glue on everything; it takes grease and a flexible attitude to outwit and outsmart tough competitors. Companies benefit from entrepreneurial thinking. People are more productive and creative working in positive environments."
Brian's book, Powerful Steps, reveals the essentials of career performance. Job skills are important; you must learn your trade. But what powers careers are not just what you learn on the job, its mastering people and interpersonal skills. You can't manage, market or sell successfully if you don't understand people. Success follows a pattern of thinking and when you see how the winners do it, you can do it. It takes initiative and a good attitude. Brian resides in Phoenix, AZ and continues his career consulting, speaking, and writing.
